Tasmania is hosting the 2011 IPAA National Conference
The Institute of Public Administration Australia’s (IPAA) annual National Conference is the showpiece for the Institute. It is the most important annual event and main forum for debate and discussion of public sector change in Australia. The conference presents an opportunity for public servants from all tiers of government, academics and others with a professional interest in public sector management to meet with peers and colleagues to learn together from both academic study and practical experience about good practice in changing situations.

Chair, National Conference Steering Committee
This year’s conference, Learning to Power Share encapsulates the theme “Hanging Our Parliaments or Changing Administrative Paradigms – Minority Governments in Practice”.
We are witnessing dramatic change in the world’s parliaments. Minority governments are a growing presence internationally and in Australian politics, at all levels.
Late last year, the Federal system experienced its first hung parliament for more than fifty years. Every state and territory now has recent experience of some form of power sharing parliament and today, four states and territories have governments that depend on smaller party or independent support for their survival. Local government, often overlooked in the rush of Australia’s parliaments to claim credit for breaking new ground, has managed through shifting balances of power since its inception.
The conference will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart, Thursday 25 August to Friday 26 August 2011.
Registrations are now open as well as sponsor/exhibitor opportunities and the call for abstracts.
